There are two main custom recovery images to install on Android devices these days: TWRP Recovery and CyanogenMod Recovery. The CyanogenMod Recovery is not a direct replacement for CWM Recovery, but it has taken its place. You will no longer find any ClockworkMod Recovery files being brought out for devices.

While CyanogenMod Recovery has got great potential, it isn’t there yet and the TWRP Recovery is the main custom recovery people are installing on devices today.

Samsung Galaxy A7 2016

These are the guidelines to install TWRP Recovery on the Samsung Galaxy A7 smartphone for the year 2016:

Files You Need

  1. Download the TWRP Recovery for the Galaxy A7 2016 from this page.
  2. Download the Odin flashing tool from our page here.
  3. You can install this custom recovery on any of the model numbers of the Samsung Galaxy A7 smartphone from 2016. Just make sure you have the second-generation version of the device and not the first (came out in 2015).
  4. You must have a computer that is running Windows for an operating system if you are following this guide. You cannot flash the files in this guide on a Mac or Linux computer.

Installing TWRP Recovery on the Samsung Galaxy A7 2016

  1. Extract the files of the Odin flashing tool and the TWRP Recovery to the desktop of the computer.
  2. Double-click on the Odin executable so the flashing tool opens on the desktop.
  3. Important: deselect the Auto Reboot box so it is empty. You do not want it to reboot after flashing the recovery. Do not make any other changes to the default settings.
  4. Boot the Samsung Galaxy A7 device in download mode and connect it to the computer with the USB cable.
  5. Connect the Samsung Galaxy A7 2016 device to the computer with the USB cable.
  6. Look at the Odin user-interface that should already be open on the computer and it will give you a green ID: COM port if the drivers are working. No device connected? Try installing the universal ADB Drivers and starting again. Worst case scenario: sometimes a computer can require a reboot.
  7. Click the AP or PDA button you can see from the Odin user-interface and browse the desktop for the custom recovery image file.
  8. Click the Start button when you are ready for the flashing to begin
  9. Wait until you can see the pass message from the Odin user-interface.
  10. Reboot the Samsung Galaxy A7 2016 to recovery mode during the first boot. In other words, do not let it boot in normal mode before you get to recovery mode. Once your device is in the recovery mode once, it will have the TWRP Recovery on the device until you choose to flash the stock recovery later.

In conclusion, that’s how to install TWRP Recovery on the 2016 edition of the Samsung Galaxy A7 smartphone. You can always flash the stock recovery or stock ROM back on the device in the future if you no longer want a custom recovery running. Until then, you will find it booting every time you use the hardware buttons to reach your normal recovery mode.

Take Into Account:

Team Win often release several TWRP Recovery files for a particular device. They always recommend installing the latest version of TWRP available to avoid compatibility issues. If you have updated the firmware on the device recently and the most recent version of TWRP is not working, then try downgrading the firmware and trying again.

Some custom ROMs that are newer might not be compatible with older versions of TWRP Recovery. You can fix that issue by updating to the latest version of TWRP also.

You can visit the official Team Win Recovery Project home page and scroll down the list to find your device to get the most recent version if the version available in this guide is not working for your device.
