Earlier versions of the Windows 10 operating system came with more tiles on the Start menu by default. In later Windows 10 versions, the Start menu was reduced to fewer tiles, and some of the tiles were also reduced in size, such as the default Mail app.

The Start menu is one of those things in Windows 10 that is highly subjective and thus difficult for Microsoft top keep everyone happy. Subsequently, you can choose from the Settings app if you would like the more modern default Start menu or how it used to be in earlier versions that gave more space for tiles. You need to be running on at least Windows 10 build 10547 to find the “show more tiles on Start” option available from the Settings app. That’s also the specific Windows update where the Start menu changed its default appearance.

Examples of how the Start menu appears with “Show more tiles on Start” toggled on and off:

The following tutorial demonstrates how to turn on or off the option to show more tiles on the Start menu when you’re using a version of the Windows 10 operating system.

How to Show More Tiles on Start Menu in Windows 10

Here is how you can change how many tiles can fit on the Start menu in Windows 10:

1. Open the Settings app, and click on the Personalization icon from the main Windows Settings menu.

2. From Personalization’s menu, click on Start, and then from the right side of the same window use the toggle to turn on or off Show more tiles on Start.

Note: If the Start menu is still not to your satisfaction, you can drag on its border to customize it to your preferred size.

You can now close the Settings app and continue using your computer if you like.

That’s all.
