The battery life of the iPhone has always been a proverbial thorn in the side for Apple, its one of those problems they just can’t seem to stamp out and once again the problem seems to have reared its ugly head.  Since the release of iOS 6.1 in January this year, an increasing number of users have reported a rapid demise in the battery life of their iPhones. After an overwhelming number of complaints, in particular from users of the iPhone 4S, Apple has provided a solution. The release of iOS 6.1.2 made headlines for its ability to fix a glitch with passcode lock vulnerabilities, but it has also improve the performance of the iPhone 4S battery and some overheating problems.

It appears the problem stemmed from a glitch within Microsoft Exchange in Apple Mail which caused devices to continuously try to make contact with the server, placing it into sync loop and in turn eating up all the battery and over heating the device. The solution couldn’t come soon enough for some with reports that users where losing as much as 10% battery life per hour with their devices in Standby mode. iPhone 4S users were notified automatically when the iOS 6.1.2 update was release last week, with many previously warned not to update to iOS 6.1.1 due to further decrease in battery performance.

If you are still having troubles with your iPhones battery life, there are a few things you can do to lower your battery usage. For a start make sure location service and Bluetooth are turned off. Bluetooth is one of those services that you will only use frequently if you have a headset or Bluetooth equipped radio in your car. Another tip is to make sure your Screen Brightness is turned right down to its lowest comfortable setting.
