Windows 8.1 has now well and truly rattled a few heads. This was anything but a smooth release for the Microsoft team, but after some back and forth, the update is out there to be used by anyone on a Windows tablet or computer. We’ll run you through how to get it quickly below.
If you’re a bit confused, there were some errors involved with the release of the RT version, and following those Windows released a recovery image to help those out who were suffering from those issues. That isn’t of concern, stepping outside of the RT. Having said that, MS did decide to take out some features from 8.1 that they planned on having there for everybody.
After all is said and done it has been given the all clear again today, so download and install with confidence.
The easiest way to do it would be via the real disk that you can get from stores or sent out via mail. Owners of the Windows 8 will have the free upgrade up their sleeves, but if you are on Windows 7 you will have to pay.
From there, you will need to make sure the machine you are installing it on is properly up to date. You can do this by checking for updates like it should be set on automatic unless you have changed the settings.
Alternatively, instead of the disk you can head over to the official Windows website and download it from there. Just make sure you have made a backup before you start. As soon as you hit up the site, you see a banner ad asking if you want the upgrade. Click on it and follow the instructions.
Upgrading is highly recommended because it is a better bit of software to work with.
Believe it or not, once you finish the installation, there is another update already waiting for you via the standard “automatic” update again. It is worth your time to do this one to fix the small bugs in the system.
Everything that was on your machine should flow over smoothly unless you were on the preview version last time. If that is the case, then you will need to re-install what apps you did have last time.
