Even those who are not heavily into customizing a device can enjoy the fruits of a custom recovery running on a handset. TWRP is the most popular custom recovery at the moment after the recent demise of ClockworkMod Recovery. Both versions of custom recovery were very good at what they do, but people stopped using the now outdated Volume and Power buttons for navigation when they could use the clearly better idea of a touch-based user-interface coming directly from the Samsung Galaxy A5’s display.

These are the guidelines to install TWRP Recovery on the Samsung Galaxy A5 SM-A510 smartphone from 2016:

Files You Need

  1. Download the TWRP Recovery for the A5 2016 from this page.
  2. Download the Odin flashing tool for your A5 device from this page.
  3. You can use this guide on any version of the Samsung Galaxy A5 2016 smartphone with the model numbers starting with SM-A510.

Installing TWRP Recovery on Samsung Galaxy A5 SM-A510 2016

  1. Enable the USB Debugging Mode so you can connect the Samsung Galaxy A5 device to the computer with the USB cable and transfer files.
  2. Download the custom recovery and the Odin file to the computer and drag the files from the default download folder to the desktop.
  3. Extract the TWRP Recovery and the Odin flashing tool so you can see the files on the desktop.
  4. Boot the Samsung Galaxy A5 in download mode and then connect it to the computer with the USB cable.
  5. Wait a few seconds for the drivers to start working and then look at the user-interface of Odin for a green ID: COM port and the “added” message. If your device is not added then you need to install the universal ADB Driver and try again.
  6. Click the AP button from the Odin user-interface and then browse the desktop for the TWRP file.
  7. Turn off the Auto Reboot option from the Odin user-interface so your device does not automatically reboot.
  8. Do not make any other changes from the Odin user-interface.
  9. Click the Start button.
  10. Wait until you get the pass message from the Odin message box; your device will not reboot this time because we took off the Auto Reboot.
  11. Reboot the Samsung Galaxy A5 2016 device manually and as soon as it boots, press the hardware button combination for recovery mode and boot the device directly to the recovery mode.
