If you want better battery life, enhanced user experience and performance improvements with the software then you’ll want to update to this new firmware that carries the build number of 15.5.A.1.5 for the Sony Xperia M Dual C2005 and C2005 smartphone variants. It brings one new feature called Xperia Themes and several fixes that I will talk about after the jump.

Two days ago I covered the Android 4.3 Jelly Bean 15.4.A.1.9 update for the original Xperia M C190X, and this upgrade is offering much of the same details only this time for the Xperia M dual-SIM C200X.

4.3 Jelly Bean

The official Sony page recommends using a stable WiFi connection instead of the mobile data to avoid data traffic. We also recommend staying away from the mobile data, so you don’t use it up. For some people going over these monthly allowances can be costly, and most people tend to have more GB’s to use over the home WiFi also. Having said that we don’t expect this to take up many MB’s judging by the limited features that come along with it. It’s more focused on improving the user experience with the existing features and not adding anything substantial on top of what we already know. If you have noticed your system with any bugs or stability flaws by all means update as soon as possible because there’s a good chance, this build is carrying a fix for your issue. Anyhow, to successfully install this wirelessly you will want the newest version of the Update Center app.

It is an over the air release. Some people know that as OTA instead. The pair mean the same thing and the initials are the abbreviations. It should come into almost everybody as a notification so there is no need to check. However, if you do not get any notification or you wish to check manually you can do so by visiting Settings > About phone > Software updates > System updates. If you can’t remember if you have upgraded to this software version already or not you can tell what version you are using by navigating to Settings > About phone > Build number / version.

Sony released the Xperia L series also in 2013, and it’s a shame that they haven’t certified any new software for them. The Xperia L came with Android 4.1 and got the update to Android 4.3, but these smaller versions haven’t made their way around yet. It should come soon because they have followed a similar OS path to the M variant we are talking about here today.

If your smartphone has a custom ROM installed on it then, you will not be able to update it. However, you can wait for the files to become available manually and do it that way. If you are connecting to the computer make sure you hold up to date USB drivers and USB Debugging enabled. Also check that you have enough battery power to see through the installation so that it does not run out before it finishes.

It’s a great plan to backup your contacts, SMS texts, photos, videos, music, apps and all other sensitive data. If you are having trouble backing up apps try using helium available from the Google Play store. If you just want the contacts, this can be achieved quickly by syncing with the Google account. This handset only comes with 4 GB of built-in storage space and making matter worse, only 2 GB of that is available for the end users after the Android OS is finished taking up its space. You might enjoy a trip to the market to buy an additional 32 GB microSD, microSDHC storage expansion cards that are on offer. With one of these cards, everybody should have enough external memory to backup what they need.

If you have this up and running on your smartphone already we would love to hear from you so leave a comment and let us know what you think.

Read more about it on the official software updates page.
