An official beta version of the Ice Cream Sandwich operating system is now leaked as users get to have their first taste of Google’s Android latest OS. Now of course the first thing on people’s minds was how to make use of all that Skyrocket power by rooting it.
Before you begin rooting the Skyrocket, you will need to make sure you have the Samsung Galaxy USB drivers. You may have this already if you use the device regularly, in which case you can skip this step. This is necessary to connect the device to the computer.
You will also need to have USB debugging mode enabled to complete this guide. You can follow the link that I provided and find out how to do that if you don’t know already.
Root Galaxy S2 Skyrocket SGH-i727 On Android 4.0.3 Ice Cream Sandwich
Step 1. First thing you need to do is download ClockworkMod, ODIN and Superuser 3.0.7.
Step 2. Once you have downloaded all three files now Unzip and launch the ODIN file.
Step 3. Once you’ve done that now turn off your Skyrocket device. After ensuring its completely shut down Press and hold the volume up and down button at the same time. (Grab a friend for a sec if possible now). Keeping your fingers on the buttons now connect the Skyrocket to the computer. You’ll know when you can release the buttons after a Download mode screen comes up. It is possible to do alone but not the easiest thing to do so good luck with that.
Step 4. Now that you’ve done that the Skyrocket will be detected by ODIN. Once it has, now click the PDA and select the SkyrocketCWMrecovery.tar file. This is also the file you grabbed back in step one to avoid confusion.
Step 5. Now click the start button and you should see ClockWork Recovery being flashed. The device will automatically reboot once Odin is finished doing its stuff.
Step 6. After it’s booted back up you have to shut it down again and this time boot it into ClockworkMod recovery. You do this by holding the volume up, volume down and the power button simultaneously. Keep holding until it takes you to the main menu.
Step 7. Go here once it opens: install zip from sdcard > choose zip from sdcard. Once there now select the Superuser 3.0.7 file that you grabbed in step 1 also. It will now flash itself.
Step 8. Once it’s finished flashing select reboot system now and you’re done.
