The Jailbreak community has seen some great releases in the past few weeks, and it is usually only a matter of time before our old favourites receive the updates they need from the amazing iPhone Dev team.

The newest updated comes in the way of Redsn0w 0.9.12b1 and uses the exploit from Absinthe in the untethered Jailbreaking process. The great news is you can use the tool to Jailbreak iOS 5.1.1, whilst restoring custom firmware on A4 devices.  So, if you have been holing out for the updated Redsn0w version, like so many unlockers have, just follow the simple tutorial below.

The following tutorial will support the following devices:

  • iPhone 4S/ 4 / 3GS
  • iPad (3rd Gen)/ 2 / 1
  • iPod Touch 3G/ 4G
  • Apple TV 2G

Jailbreak iOS 5.1.1 Untethered With Redsn0w 0.9.12b1

Step 1. First you will need to download the latest version of Redsn0w:

  • Redsn0w 0.9.12b1 for OS X HERE
  • Redsn0w 0.9.12b1 for Windows HERE

Step 2. After you connect your device to your PC using the USB cable, you will need to run the Redsn0w which you downloaded.

Step 3. From the welcome screen, click on ‘Jailbreak’ and then choose the ‘Cydia’ option. This will begin the Jailbreaking process.

Unlockers note: Use Redsn0w 0.9.12b1 to create custom firmware for your A4 device. To do this simply:

  • Select the ‘Extras’ button in the welcome screen.
  • Choose the ‘Custom IPSW’ option.
  • Click on the necessary iOS 5.1.1 IPSW firmware file.
  • Enter Pwned DFU mode. You will find the ‘Pwned DFU’  option in Redsn0w’s Extras.
  • Using iTunes restore your device to the custom firmware.

Step 4. Once the Jailbreaking process is complete, reboot your device.
