The PwnageTool 5.1.1 allows users to Jailbreak their devices by creating custom iOS 5.1.1 firmware, and at the same time, preserve your baseband which is great news for those users dependant on UltraSn0w or Gevey SIM for their unlock.

PwnageTool 5.1.1 Supports –
If you are the proud owner of one of these following A4 devices:

  • iPhone 4
  • iPhone 3GS
  • iPod Touch 4G
  • iPhone Touch 3G
  • iPad 1

Then you can follow this step by step guide to jailbreak iOS 5.1.1 untethered using PwnageTool 5.1.1 Unfortunately A5 devices are not supported by the PwnageTool 5.1.1 so it’s best to stick to a Redsn0w or Absinthe guide for any devices falling under this category. It’s also recommended that you use the Redsn0w or Absinthe guides if you are not an iPhone unlocker wanting to preserve baseband.

As with all tutorials, please ensure you back up your device before you begin and proceed at your own risk. ConsumingTech will not take responsibility for any damage to your device or loss of data which may occur during the guide.

The guide:

Step 1. First you will need to download the following:

Step 2. You will need to double-click on the downloaded PwnageTool.dmg then locate and copy to your desktop.

Step 3. Once saved in your desktop you will need to launch it (Select ‘OK’ if a warning message appears).

Step 4. In the top left corner you should find a friendly picture of Albert Einstein marked ‘Expert Mode’. Select this.

Step 5. Once selected you will be prompted to select what kind or device you are using, select your specific device then make sure a large green tick has appeared on it. If it has press ‘Next’.

Step 6. Select the ‘Browse for IPSW’ option then locate the iOS 5.1.1 IPSW file. This is the firmware file we downloaded in the first step. From here, select the ‘General’ button and then click on the ‘Next’ arrow.

Step 9. Follow the prompts to pick a folder you wish the custom iOS 5.1.1 to be saved to.

Step 10. Let Pwnage do its magic whilst it builds your custom iOS 5.1.1 IPSW. You may be asked for your admin password at some stage so it’s a good idea to have it handy.

To achieve this you will need to hold down ‘Power’ + ‘Home’. After 10 seconds you can release the ‘Power’ button but keep holding down the ‘Home’ button for a further 10 seconds.

Step 12. At this stage iTunes will open, as will a pop up message.
