It’s not often I get the pleasure to announce a new firmware for my home country so I take great pride in announcing that Aussies are now starting to receive Android MR2.2 KitKat that is a fresher version of Android 4.4. Kitkat software.

It isn’t just Aussies either with the same build also rolling out to Kiwi’s and Indian’s who own the Google Nexus 5 smartphones. All owners need to lookout for a new notification alerting them that the new update is available to download and install over the air. People can choose to put it on hold and go back at a later by checking the Settings> About Device> System Updates followed by ‘Check Now’ options available from the Settings application.

Android 4.4.4

No update since Android 4.4.2 has fascinated us, but there were a few things to look out for in the basic 4.4.4 such as fixing a security flaw relating to OpenSSL and a new phone dialer.

The new build number KTU84Q comes with a factory image here and a binary here for easy installation. If you decide not to wait for the OTA release it is installed manually by using the Android SDK and ADB sideload from a stock recovery. However, I recommend waiting for the official OTA coming in instead of flashing the factory image because it only contains a few minor bug fixes and it isn’t worth wiping the smartphone data to do so unless you are an advanced user and backup with ease.

If you want to give it a shot we will prove an official guide soon. Moreover, before continuing make sure you backup the contacts, photos, photo galleries and all sensitive data you can’t afford to lose.
