We are witnessing Samsung developer smartphones this year that come with a solid metal frame around the border of the shell. That came about after the Galaxy S5 was released with the usual plastic backing that so many people had enough of. The Galaxy Alpha was the first metal frame we saw release and we spent much of the middle period of the year talking about it coming out as a ‘prime’ variant of the current S5 flagship. Now it appears Sammy is up to more tricks and releasing at least two more smartphone namely the Galaxy A3 and A5 that come as part of the A-series with metal frames very similar to the ones from the Alpha. That’s amazing news if you wanted a cheaper handset from the flagship that still comes with the premium finish. It marks the first year South Korean multinational conglomerate company are stepping away from the plastic body and so far it’s been a huge success. The frames gloss with a metallic finish that shine like nothing else.

A3 and A5 Alpha

It’s reminds us of the ‘refractor’ baseball cards. We watched as the head of the Sammy design team made some bold moves in February for the S5 and that was met with mixed reviews. Following on from that the aftermath included the head honcho sacked and relieved of his duties. it’s clear now that Sammy is giving order to step away from the norm and deliver something unique that people haven’t seen before. They hit the nail on the head this time with the design that is both unique and attractive.

The leak comes to us from ‘Android Mexico’ as you can see from the logo on the leaked image that looks like the KitKat design. The A5 and A3 make up two out of three smartphones in the series. The highest number is the A7, however, it is always the lower numbers we see appearing in the news for leaks. Nothing changes there yet again.

There’s still no release or launch date given for any of the A-series range. However, we know that the guys from Seoul always enjoy events around the same time their main rival Apple are launching devices. We know the fruit company out of Cupertino is wanting to release the new iPad range soon enough after they just finished with the Apple watch and the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus smartphone. With the way we are seeing parts of the A-series, it’s our opinion that they are coming soon and picking up speed for a launch that is in October or November.

We think the A3 is coming with a 4.5 inch display, 540 x 960 pixels resolution, 244 ppi pixel density, Super AMOLED technology, proximity sensor and a light sensor. The camera sports a 8 megapixel with rear-facing shooter and a 5 megapixel shooter on the front. It does feature Face detection, Geo tagging and digital zoom. The hardware boasts a Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 8916 system chip, Quad core, 1200 MHz, ARM Cortex-A53, 64-bit processor, Adreno 306 graphics processor, 1024 MB RAM and 8 GB of internal memory.

The A5 comes with a 5.0-inch display, Snapdragon 410 SoC, 2 GB of RAM, Super AMOLED screen technology and a 13 megapixel rear-facing camera. As you can see, the specs are greater for the higher number. Nonetheless, the lowest number is still classed as a mid-ranger and not targeting the low-end market. Nothing is released on the A7 front just yet. All handsets will run the latest Android 4.4.4 Kitkat although we know the Android L software is coming out just around the corner next month with the Nexus 6 and Nexus 9 smartphone and tablets.

The fresh A-series is keeping the Alpha name.
