The Xperia Z2 was distributed to many countries around the world, but the one that concerns us today is the United Kingdom. Vodafone UK subscribers are starting to see a brand new Android 4.4.2 KitKat software update namely 17.1.2.A.0.323. The new firmware is welcomed with open arms, but still a far cry from the Android 4.4.4 KitKat many people are waiting for. making matters even worse for owners is knowing that the owners of the Z1 are already running the latter version. Normally we see the newer smartphones and tablet receive the fresher updates first because they have spent money more recently on the device. That is proving to be not the case this time around.

In Sony’s defense, they aren’t the only phone manufacturer that opts to fix existing bugs over updating to new numbers that bring in new features. The good news is that this new build does come with a new video icon for receiving voice calls.

You should know that the kernel version came out on Wednesday the 2nd of July just before midnight. In addition, the model number is D6503 and the processor information is Qualcomm MSM8974PRO-AB.

Android 4.4.2 brings in many new features to the chocolate software to date, including white status and navigation bars, cloud printing, new color Emoji, new Location menu, landscape keyboard improvements, full screen album art and movie art from the lock screen, immersive mode and more.

The final two stages of Kitkat do not bring anything special for most Android-based smartphones. However, Z2 fans know that it will bring the popular ‘App 2 SD’ feature and that’s why they don’t want to wait any longer. From there, it’s all downhill until we see the Android L released with a legitimate name.

Flagship owners should keep an eye on the notification bar for when the OTA message arrives. If you see the notice, but opt to install it at a later date because you are away from the home WiFi, you must navigate your way to Settings > About Device and check for updates that way. It will not prompt you over the air twice.

There’s a chance that people will not be able to upgrade OTA, but rather using Sony’s PC companion. You must have a Windows-based PC to use the companion. In addition, we are hearing whispers that handset owners located in Germany are also finding messages suggesting that the update is ready for installation.
