What is Avatar ROM? Avatar ROM is basically a mixture of CM 10.1 and MIUI with the Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean. That means that when you install the ROM you can head over to the settings, look at the software and it will show you that you are now running Android 4.2.2. The Jelly Bean 4.2.2 doesn’t need running already, this custom ROM will put it on there for you. This is of course the Avatar ROM though, so it will be the Avatar ROM instead of the stock Jelly Bean 4.2.2, but it does run from that firmware. To help you from making any mistakes, always back up your settings and anything that you have on the handset first before you start. Now if things get wiped you can just put them back on again without any hassles. If your phone is already connected to the USB on the computer, then use the computer to do the backup instead of the SD card. Most devices will have their own unique way, thanks to the manufacturer that this is done. Modern handsets generally have a service running so that when you plug it in it will prompt you to do this right away. If you haven’t gotten familiar with it then take a few minutes soon to get well acquainted. Once you have done it a few times you will get used to it and it won’t take you long to make sure all of your data is well stored for any case that it may go missing and not just following this guide.
Before you begin, it’s worth noting that this guide will indeed void your warranty. Why? Because it is a custom ROM, not an official ROM.
You will need
– LG USB drivers
– USB debugging mode enabled
1. Download the Avatar ROM and Google Gapps. Put the zip files on the desktop.
2. With the USB cable supplied, go ahead and connect the LG Optimus G to the computer.
3. Transfer the zip files on the phones SD card.
4. Power down the device and boot it back up in recovery mode.
5. Now do all the usual wiping when installing these things by simply selecting wipe data/factory reset and wipe cache partition from inside recovery.
6. Head back and select install from SD card. Now pick out the Avatar ROM and install it. Do the same thing with the Google Gapps pack.
7. Head back to the main recovery screen and select the option to reboot system now. Upon reboot the device will now have the new ROM on. Sweet!
Sometimes it can draw out fail messages after the files are installed. If this does happen to you, don’t worry about it and just keep going. There has been no explanation given by the developers why this does occur sometimes, but they do say that it should fix itself. Persistence is the key and it isn’t doing any harm.
