If you’ve ever worked in retail and in particular a supermarket-type shop, you’d know how common it is for people to steal. While that’s understandable, it doesn’t mean supervisors have the green light to strip search their employees in front of the other staff and customers. That’s what happened today when 17-year-old Naomi Scott’s supervisor told her to shake out her bra, assuming she had stolen something and hidden it down there. Naomi reportedly didn’t have anything down her bra, and she felt so embarrassed about the ordeal that she felt she was forced to resign.
The incident took place at the popular market chain, Poundland. The management at Poundland tells the media that they regret the incident, but no word has been given about what will happen to the supervisor and whether they will lose their jobs. We know one thing though: they will have woken up to a shock today with the story all over social media and Google.
Many media outlets have tried to hear the supervisor’s side of the story but they haven’t given a formal statement on the matter. There are always two sides to every story, but regardless of what they think Naomi might have taken, they probably should have handled this situation differently. The picture below is of the outlet where it happened.
You can see from inside the shop that it is a nice place with lots of goodies. It’s also a very bright and open place that is probably one of the last places you want to try to steal something and also one of the last places you’d want to have to be searched based on suspicions. The 17-year-old girl had been working at the shop for over a year now after leaving school in 2014. That means she wasn’t exactly new to the supervisors and management. You can view that one of two ways: they know she is up to no good or they know that she is not the kind to steal.
You can also see that Poundland gets a lot of customers at times also, making yesterday’s situation even more uncomfortable. Many people are calling for the person in charge or ordering for the check to be sacked including most people in the comments section of other news sites who are reporting on the same story as we are breaking it. Moreover, Naomi has told us that she earns 3.91 pounds per hour and works at Poundland full-time between 30 and 40 hours per week.
