Ah, the BLU Life One X. One of the better budget smartphones out there. It doesn’t run the absolute latest version of Android, but it’s pretty modern none-the-less. To get the absolute most out of your device, consider rooting it after the instructions below.

If there’s one smartphone out there you didn’t know existed under the Android name it’s likely the BLUE Life. The “X’ variant is the second-generation and it comes out of the box with Android Jelly Bean. granted, when it was new jelly bean wasn’t as old as it is now, but it’s still not a device that companies are updating regularly. While that’s a downside when thinking about stock android with possible bloatware, it’s also got some upside potential.

What greater device to open away from the default factory restrictions that one that’s a budget phone. Furthermore, since installing custom firmware or a custom ROM is two of the main attractions to gaining root access, it only makes sense to open up the smartphone ports to their true potential. We do that by unchaining the OS with root access. Custom firmware allows us to install newer version of Android which are not official releases by the phone carrier network of the manufacturer.

  • Visit the Developer Options menu on the handset and allow permissions for the USB Debugging mode.
  • You want the up to date USB drivers for the handset or you could struggle connecting successfully to the computer.
  • Make sure you have enough battery power to avoid shutting down during the installation. You can brick your device if it shuts down during the flashing. You cannot solely rely on the USB charging feature as most of the guide is done directly from the phone suing an application.
  • The following does void the warranty. Since the device is getting old now, many of the warranties are running out. That said, not all people bought the phone when it was new, which means plenty still have a working warranty.

How to Root the BLU Life One X Running Android 4.2.1 Jelly Bean

  1. 1. Download the rooting app to your device.
  2. 2. Go to Settings > Security and look for the option to enable software from unknown sources.
  3. 3. Using your file manager of choice, locate the file you’ve just downloaded and click on it to install it.
  4. 4. When you install the app, go to your app drawer and launch it. The app is Framaroot.
  5. 5. Once you’re in Framaroot, look for and click on the Install SuperSU option.
  6. 6. Look for the Borimir exploit and then tap it to start the rooting process.
  7. 7. The rooting process has begun. Please be patient. It’ll be done soon enough.
  8. 8. When the rooting process is completed, you’ll need to reboot your phone.
  9. 9. Download the “root check” application and verify it’s working.

Just because you have officially opened the ports to extra apps and ROMs, doesn’t mean you can’t return back to stock Android and lock everything up again. All you must do is flash an official software update manually. Do not accept future over the air software updates because they can potentially brick your device. You should try flashing the same file manually.
