The OnePlus 3 got rooted as soon as it arrived in the hands of the developers, and what’s more, the process of rooting is identical to that of OnePlus 2. You just unlock the bootloader, flash a custom recovery, and use that recovery to flash SuperSU, and your phone is rooted.

Our previous guide has already taught you how to do those two things – unlocking the bootloader and installing a custom recovery. This one shows the final step that is flashing the SuperSU on the phone to achieve root.

Now that you have an unlocked bootloader, a custom recovery, and root access, you can do much more things on your phone than what you could do before. From being able to install root-requiring apps to flashing an entirely different version of the OS aka custom, you now have all the tools and powers to do that on your phone.

If this is your first phone that you have rooted, and you have no idea what should be done with a rooted phone, you can check out our guide on the same that gives you some ideas about what can be done with a phone that is rooted.

Usually, the one thing most users do after rooting their phone is install root-requiring apps, and many of these can be downloaded from the Google Play store. After you have played around with these apps, you can move over to some advanced stuff such as a custom ROM, which can be obtained from sites like XDA Developers.

One thing you should always do before flashing a custom ROM or a custom development is that make a backup of your phone. That way, if things did not go well for you, you can revert to the stock condition without hurting your phone. You will thank me later for that!
