The Galaxy S4 is the flagship device of the Samsung company. Over recent years, Samsung and Android have teamed up to create one of the best mobile devices out there, which competes with the likes of the iPhone. The S4 quickly became the talk of the town after its release because of its extra big screen size. Some people really took to it and thought it was great. Others wanted to go nowhere near it, because it was too big, which is understandable because there are also people out there calling the iPhone too big.

As for people into rooting, there were some issues. Many of the U.S phone carriers such as AT&T decided to bring it out with a boot loader that can’t be locked. That means it was impossible to root. For many people, they thought the sky was beginning to fall. This was also around the same time of the iPhone’s documented struggles, which nearly had the jailbreakers swapping over to Android instead. All-in-all, it was a dark time. Luckily, that didn’t last long.

Details of Note

  • Boot loaders opened up literally within a week, thanks to certain developers such as Rosenberg, who has a canny resemblance to Heisenberg from Breaking Bad. It is also quite possible he is just as gifted in his craft.
  • From there, the flood gates opened and rooting was easy, and on many firmware levels. This one is for the 4.2.2 Jelly Bean.

Rooting the Samsung Galaxy S4 Running Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean

1. Download the CF-Auto-Root Package and extract the file to your desktop. It can be anywhere, but we say the desktop so you don’t lose it. Do the same thing with Download ODIN v1.85.

2. Power down the device. Boot it back up into download mode. How do I do that? The download mode guide is here.

3. Open the ODIN we downloaded and then connect the Galaxy S4 to the computer via USB. I did it, but I’m not sure it is recognized in ODIN? Look for a message that said added. If you don’t see it you may need to upgrade the drivers. If this is true, then in the second paragraph is the link for the drivers.

4. In ODIN we want to find the file we downloaded CF-Auto-Root-ja3g-ja3gxx-gti9500.zip and put it in the PDA area.

5. Now select the Auto Reboot and F. Reset Time options which are in ODIN.

6. Now click start which is a button around the middle inside ODIN. This will now root your mobile. It will reboot itself when it is done. It may take a few minutes, so go and grab yourself a cuppa!

Note: Keep the device connected as it is still booting back up. It will boot into recovery mode. Wait until you see the home screen before unplugging the USB connection from mobile to computer.
