The following guide teaches you how to root the BLU Vivo 4 smartphone and install Carliv Recovery. The Carliv recovery is a different version similar to CWM recovery and will be the custom recovery you need to get root access. Moreover, you can keep the custom recovery on your device for its other useful features, which include still recovering your device as well as any stock recovery normally would.

Files You Need

  1. Download the Carliv Recovery from this page. You can find the links available from the original source on this page if the link goes down.
  2. Download VRoot or the Root Genius application. You only need one of those and either one will do the job.
  3. Download the SuperSU updated 2.01 version from this page.
  4. Download the MobileUncle Tools app from the Google Play Store.
  5. Download the Boot.img ADB zip.

Rooting the BLU Vivo 4

  1. Start by installing the Carliv Recovery on the Vivo 4 device. Download the Carliv recovery file to the desktop of the computer and unzip the file.
  2. Download the MobileUncle Tools app and have it installed on your BLU smartphone. Now connect the BLU Vivo 4 smartpohone to the computer using the USB cable.
  3. Copy the Carliv Recovery file to the root of the SD card on your device.
  4. Copy the SuperSU to the root of the internal SD card at the same time.
  5. Copy the Boot.img ADB zip to the SD card.
  6. Unplug from the computer and open your MobileUncle Tools app.
  7. Follow the prompts to install the recovery.img file and the MobileUncle Tools app will install that Carliv Recovery on your device.
  8. Reboot the BLU Vivo 4 smartphone in the custom recovery mode you just installed.
  9. Scroll through the recovery mode using the Volume keys and highlight the Install option from the menu.
  10. Choose to install your Boot.img ADB zip file from the SD card.
  11. Go back to the install option from the main Carliv Recovery menu and flash the updated SuperSU zip from your SD card.
  12. Go back to the main recovery menu and choose the reboot system now option from the menu.
  13. Once your BLU smartphone reboots back up in normal mode, you need to run your VRoot or the Root Genius tool on the computer. You can find plenty of guides online for how to use those two tools. Basically, just download it to the computer and run the program. Now connect it the computer and follow the on-screen instructions issued by the rooting program on the desktop.
