After making people feel unwanted during an unusual release period with invite only opportunities to buy the product, OnePlus One have had a relatively successful first year in the smartphone market. They had one main difference that separated them from the rest: a built-in CyanogenMod ROM which can only usually be installed after root access and a custom recovery first. The CyanogenMod and OnePlus partnership took a rocky turn toward the end of the first year and rumors suggest we will no longer see anything CyanogenMod coming with the OnePlus 2 set for a launch date soon.
OnePlus offered decent specs, but they brought them out in the market just before other handsets were set to release with increased performance. If it follows that strategy again a second time around, it’s hard to see the world loving it as much as it did the first time without any CyanogenMod appeal.
