If you are a subscriber to the Sprint phone carrier network and own the Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini you are witnessing a fresh Android 4.4.2 KitKat OTA update rolling out namely L600VPUBNJ1. You ought to understand that this is not a misprint just because Sprint users already know the 4.4.2 number. What we have here is another incremental update on top of that existing number that comes with a new build number.

We know a great deal of KitKat updates coming to the Galaxy range of late, and this one by Sprint is installing a few new features such as the international WiFi calling, Google security patches and the newfangled HD Voice icon. The same features have already gone to other devices with much success. However, some people commenting on blogs are saying be wary of the new build since it comes with some lag for emailing and messaging. We’ve reached out to the network and there’s no comment coming back just yet. It may be a case of one man’s misfortune since that’s the lone report we have to go on now.

S4 Mini

The L600VPUBNJ1 software update starting arriving as a notification to devices yesterday and will continue to roll throughout the rest of the week. They always come in phases to different times for everybody. You want to install the over the air update using the home WiFi network and avoid the mobile data plan since they come with high traffic at times such as these with all others attempting to do the same thing as you. That generally results in a less stable connection which become more prone to requiring factory resets. There’s a chance of data loss should you require a hard reset. Users can avoid that problem by backing up the phone contacts, SMS texts, applications and more before starting the installation.

If you are installing the update as we speak and have anything to report please leave a comment. We are curious if others are witnessing any lag issues after the upgrade.

Next up on the list is Android 5.0 Lollipop that is coming for the Nexus 6 and Nexus 9 early November according to reports, although nothing is set in stone yet or leaked about the finer details. It will trickle down the list from there and wind up on the Google Play Edition phones, previous Nexus devices from earlier years such as the Nexus 5 and finally find other names such as Motorola, Samsung and HTC smartphones and tablets.
