The HTC One M8 continues the HTC One flagship series for the second year. It’s a direct successor to the original “One” that is otherwise known as the HTC One M7. The HTC brand is general is one of the most popular brands in the smartphone industry. They have devices appealing to the low-end market, some nice mid-range devices as well as some incredible flagships. However, HTC has been struggling to sell flagships when going up against the stiff competition of the Samsung Galaxy S5 and the iPhone 6.
The HTC One M8’s downfall came when they included a lackluster camera and tried to hide it behind a new “ultra-pixel” name when essentially it means the same thing as megapixel. The only problem is they didn’t include enough megapixels so they changed the name to ultra-pixel.
That marketing error was never more apparent than when some of the largest tech websites in the world stopped referring to it as ultra-pixel and just starting calling it megapixel, which then of course made the camera fall well short on the spec sheet in comparison to other devices. With that being said, the HTC One M8’s camera did includes some new features not found on nay other camera and those features were a nice inclusion.
