These are the instructions to root the Samsung Galaxy S4 Active device with the model number GT-I9295 running on the Android 5.0.1 Lollipop update. The guide makes use of the Odin flashing tool by Samsung and the CF-Auto-Root tool by Chainfire.

The CF-Auto-Root file for the S4 Active in this guide is based on the Android 5.0.1 Lollipop software update and the LRX22C.I9295XXUDOI5 firmware build ID. You do not need your Samsung Galaxy S4 Active smartphone running that same LRX22C.I9295XXUDOI5 firmware build number before you root the device. However, Chainfire does tell us of the build ID so you can use it as an indicator for your own device. Some of the Samsung smartphones and tablets will not boot old images.

Rooting the Samsung Galaxy S4 Active GT-I9295 On Android 5.0.1

  1. Download and install the universal ADB Driver on your computer before you do anything else with your S4 Active.
  2. Enable the USB Debugging Mode on your Samsung Galaxy S4 Active smartphone by tapping on the Menu > Settings > Developer Options > USB Debugging Mode.
  3. You might need to unlock the Developer Options menu to get the USB Debugging Mode working.
  4. Extract the CF-Auto-Root and the Odin files to the desktop of the computer.
  5. Double-click the Odin executable file and the Odin flashing tool will open. Leave it open on the desktop until we connect our device.
  6. Leave all default settings the same from the Odin app. (You should have the Auto Reboot and F Reset Time boxes marked as on and the Re-partition box empty).
  7. Boot the Samsung Galaxy S4 Active smartphone in download mode.
  8. Connect the Samsung Galaxy S4 Active to the computer with the USB cable.
  9. Wait until you can see the device is “added” and the ID: COM port turns a green color. No color indicates the drivers re not working and the guide will not work without the drivers working. You can install the universal ADB Driver to help you with that problem. You might need to close the Odin app and reconnect your device in download mode. Furthermore, sometimes a computer needs a reboot for the drivers to start working after you install them.
  10. Click the AP button and search the desktop for the rooting file ending with the tar.md5 extension.
  11. Wait until you get a pass message from the Odin app and your Samsung Galaxy S4 Active reboots in recovery mode. You must reach recovery before the rooting has completed.
  12. You can boot your S4 Active up in recovery mode manually if you do not see it automatically.
  13. Reboot the Samsung Galaxy S4 Active back in normal mode and open the Google Play Store to download the root checker app.

In conclusion, you are should have the S4 Active rooted and ready to install those root-requiring apps like the Titanium Backup application. Anyone who is not finding the guide working should try installing anew version of the Odin flashing tool. The Odin in this guide given my Chainfire is the Odin 3.10. try installing the Odin 3.09 or the Odin 3.07 and see if that fixes the problem.
