Rooting the Huawei U8180 smartphones is most commonly done so you can install a custom ROM. CyanogenMod is a very popular custom ROM that you can easily download and install via the ROM manager application. In order to get the Rom Manager working, you first need to install ClockworkMod recovery. That’s not the only way to install a custom ROM, though.

You can install any custom recovery and not just CWM recovery. For example, you might prefer installing Team Win’s TWRP recovery and then upload a custom ROM zip file through that recovery. You must wipe your data between installing ROMs or else you will end up with a ROM that isn’t a clean installation. If you do get a custom recovery, you now have a new way to back up the data on your Huawei phone. The way I’m talking about is by using the NANDroid backup feature. You’ll see that inside the recovery as just ‘backup’.

The Files You Need

  1. Download the SuperOneClick rooting bundle you need from this link.
  2. These are the steps to root the Huawei U8180 smartphone. Following the guide does void the manufacturer’s warranty. The warranty is brought back again after you unroot the device. You cannot expect to send this device away under warranty at all during the time it is rooted.

Rooting the Huawei U8180

  1. Download the SuperOneClick rooting to the desktop of the computer.
  2. Make sure you have the USB Debugging Mode enabled on the smartphone. You can find that by heading to the Settings > Development > USB Debugging and check the box so it’s not empty. Now just leave that area and the OS will remember your settings.
  3. Connect the Huawei smartphone to the computer using the USB cable.
  4. Extract the SuperOneClick file using WinRAR.
  5. Click over the SuperOneClick executable file on the desktop after you extract the file.
  6. Click the Root button you will see from inside the program after it opens up on your computer.
  7. Wait patiently for the rooting to complete before touching any buttons and removing the device.
  8. Once done, you are safe to remove the device from the computer.
  9. The first thing you might want to try is installing the root checker app from the Google Play Store.

The root checker app doesn’t require root access, but it does tell you if you have root access. Once you know the access to the root file system is granted, you can start installing the root-requiring apps from the Google Play Store and other third-party sources.
