Owners of the Huawei Honor 4X smartphone can now install a custom recovery on the device. The recovery we have for you today is the ‘cherry’ version of TWRP Recovery. It works much the same as any other TWRP version where you have the physical buttons to press on the display and not the Volume or Power buttons like a traditional ClockworkMod Recovery.

Here is all you need to do to get a new recovery up and running on your Honor 4X smartphone:

  1. Open the ADB folder after you finish installing ADB and transfer the TWRP file into the same folder.
  2. From inside that folder where there is no file, hold the Shift key and right-click the mouse to get a new window popping up. Choose to open a new command window here from that new menu.
  3. Boot the Honor 4X up in fastboot mode.
  4. Connect the 4X smartphone to the computer using the USB cable.
  5. Rename the recovery file to twrprecovery.img
  6. Type your first command in the command prompt window: fastboot flash recovery twrprecovery.img
  7. Your custom recovery should now get flashed on the 4X device.
  8. Reboot your smartphone once you can see the flashing is complete.

Now open the Google Play Store and install the root checker basic application. The basic version of the root checker app.

The new custom recovery is installed on your Huawei smartphone up until you choose to flash the stock recovery back on the top. You can turn your device on or off and the custom recovery will still be there. Likewise, you can choose to boot your device up in recovery mode when your please. You will always see your TWRP recovery when you do that. You can boot it up in the recovery mode by using the same hardware buttons you would use for the stock recovery. Alternatively, you can use adb commands to reboot your device into recovery mode as long as you connect your device to the computer so fastboot can detect the device.
