The Firefox browser has been updated to version 92.0. This update to the Release channel was released on September 7, 2021.

Firefix 92.0 can automaticaly update HTTP connections to HTTPS by using HTTPS RR as Alt-Svc headers. You can also use full-range color levels for video playback (note though that Mozilla says for “many systems” and not all systems).

Firefix 92.0 also adds the ability for Mac users to get access to macOS share options from the Firefox File menu. Moreover, Firefix 92.0 adds support for images containing ICC v4 profiles on macOS.

Firefox 92.0

Firefox 92.0 also comes with Firefox Suggest, which introduces a custom search engine and sponsored suggestions in the Firefox address bar. Firefox Suggest integrates the standard suggestions Firefox is known for by taking data from new tabs, browsing history, bookmarks, and shortcuts, with sponsored content that may also appeal to users via the collection of similar data.

Firefox Suggest is available for some users who run on stable builds from the Release channel. Mozilla has not mentioned Firefox Suggest in Firefox 92’s changelog, but we know it does exist for some users.

Here is the full changelog according to Mozilla:

Firefox 92.0’s new features:

  • More secure connections: Firefox can now automatically upgrade to HTTPS using HTTPS RR as Alt-Svc headers.
  • Full-range color levels are now supported for video playback on many systems.
  • Mac users can now access the macOS share options from the Firefox File menu.
  • Support for images containing ICC v4 profiles is enabled on macOS.

Firefox 92.0 applies the following fixes:

  • Firefox performance with screen readers and other accessibility tools is no longer severely degraded if Mozilla Thunderbird is installed or updated after Firefox.
  • macOS VoiceOver now correctly reports buttons and links marked as ‘expanded’ using the aria-expanded attribute.
  • An open alert in a tab no longer causes performance issues in other tabs using the same process.

Changes made in Firefox 92.0:

  • Canonical is now building the official Firefox snap. It’s also now available on two additional architectures, ARMhf and ARM64.
  • The bookmark toolbar menus on macOS now follow Firefox visual styles.
  • Certificate error pages have been redesigned for a better user experience.
  • Continuing work to restructure Firefox’s JavaScript memory management to be more performant and use less memory.

Adverts are a touchy subject. Some people don’t like the idea of adverts existing at all, let alone in Firefox’s address bar. Even though the suggestions may appear more like a helpful feature, if they’re sponsored, then technically they’re adverts. It could be that Mozilla is trialing this feature on some users before mentioning it in a broader rollout.

The Firefox browser will automatically update itself in the background when it’s closed. If the browser is open and you want to update it, you can navigate to the Settings > Help > About Firefox, and then the browser will automatically check for any new updates.
