The Internet is the main thing we need to access websites. There are many types of Internet are available, like Dial-up, Broadband, etc. Broadband has good speed (min. 256 Kbps) but the dial-up speed is not okay. In countries like India, still, the dial-up internet exists, while the other high-tech countries have entered into the Broadband world. So, for slow internet users, I am sharing a trick which will help you in increasing your Internet speed. This method will also work for High-speed Internet to make it more High-speed.

To increase the Internet speed, you have to change your current DNS server to either OpenDNS or Google Public DNS.

 Photography

OpenDNS

  • Preferred DNS Server: 208.67.222.222
  • Alternate DNS Server: 208.67.220.220

Google Public DNS

  • Preferred DNS Server: 8.8.8.8
  • Alternate DNS Server: 8.8.4.4

Here are the steps to setup these DNS servers on your PC. Currently, I am using Windows 7, so I am providing steps for it. Other OS may have some different minor steps. I will go with OpenDNS DNS servers.

Steps to change DNS Server:

Step 1: Click Network icon in the Taskbar and right-click on your Network connection and click “Properties”. See below screenshot.

Step 2: Now, you will see the properties of your Network connection. Go to the “Networking” tab and select “Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4)” and click “Properties”. Your screen will look like this.

Step 3: Now, you will see the properties of your IPv4. Fill the two boxes with the DNS servers, which have been given at the top of this article. If you cannot edit these two boxes, then click “Use the following DNS server addresses” and then try again. In this example, I have filled these two boxes with OpenDNS DNS servers. After filling up the DNS servers, click “OK”. See below screenshot for better understanding.

Now, you are all done. Your DNS servers have been setup successfully. If you want to setup Google Public DNS, then do the above steps, but in step 3, type Google Public DNS in the both boxes.

I hope you have got better speed after doing this trick. Share your experience with us by commenting here.
