Released in November of 2015, the Blackberry Priv is the smartphone the Blackberry OEM hopes can turn it all around — and it might not have a choice. Should the Priv see lackluster sales, we might not see any future Blackberry devices at all, if rumors are to be believed. From that perspective, we do hope the Priv performs well, but we won’t be giving it easy points that it doesn’t deserve on our reviews.

The Blackberry Priv comes with Android 5.1 Lollipop out of the box and features an 18 megapixel rear-facing primary snapper — that’s a great start. Additionally, it comes with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 system chip which you cannot fault, but it’s not the best available. The top end devices using the Snapdragon system chips are officially arriving with the 810 Snapdragon SoC. There isn’t a great deal of difference between the 808 and the 810; however, you have to cringe and wonder why they thought they could cut that corner. For those who don’t know smartphones, a system chip is like the motor of a car and the numbers are the equivalent to the devices power. If you are offered the Snapdragon 810 under the hood and not the 808, you would be silly to turn it down. With that being said, it’s a minor performance difference that you won’t easily notice unless you use up most of your memory or play a great many of games.

The Priv’s main selling point is the new BlackBerry app called DTEK, which aims to give users a more secure device than any other smartphones on the market. If you are big into security and privacy, you should check this one out.
