The AT&T version of the Samsung Galaxy S4 Active can now be updated to Android 4.4 KitKat over the air thanks to a new update that has begun rolling out to owners. To check if it has arrived for you navigate your way to Settings > About Phone > System Updates > Check New to see if it has arrived. If it is not there yet do not worry as they can take a matter of weeks to make their way around to all owners. The file is available for manual download by using the system settings.

One of the things that Samsung wanted to produce in the Active handset was long battery life. They successfully implemented it and now it has reached all new levels of long lasting durability thanks to this KitKat update that also implements extra battery life. As we use our phones more and they get older, naturally the battery does not last as long as seeing this update can give back the confidence that consumers had when they first bought it.

Samsung Galaxy S4 Active

There were lots of talks about the possibility of the original S4 not receiving KitKat. All people who own the S4 hated that idea and Sammy did decide to bring it out after all on the 20th of February.

The Active is not as good as the original S4 and lacks many of the features so it is no surprise that Samsung decided to look after the standard S4 first. The screen on this one is TFT and not Super AMOLED, the body is no longer polycarbonate, it has eight fewer pixels per inch in the display and the camera is only 8 megapixels instead of the usual 13 megapixels. The good news is that Android 4.4 Did come to the Active model that has been made more for the outdoor person with a TouchWiz Nature UX UI that first came with Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean. One of the new features that suits this model so well is the new camera icon location of the lock screen. Now the phone does not have to be unlocked before anybody can pick this handset up and touch the icon in the corner of the screen. The new implementation allows people to take photos without the need of a passcode. When a device is made for the great outdoors, this should be very useful for many people who have others taking photos for them. With it, there is no need to shout across the beach of forest the pass code so others can get access to its features.
