The HTC Desire 8 is a phablet we are starting to see pop up in the news now because we are under a week away from what is rumored as its debut in China. HTC is a Taiwan-based phone and tablet maker that is now looking to break into the phablet market. Because of where their headquarters is, they do a lot of looking after the Asian countries for products.

Over the past 24 hours we have seen the specs leak for the Desire 8 and heard news that Sprint and AT&T are most likely the phone carriers who end up selling this phablet first.

The HTC Desire 8 will have a 5.5 inch display with 720p resolution, a quad-core 1.2 GHz Snapdragon 400 processor and two cameras. There will be a front-facing 5 megapixel camera and a rear-facing 13 megapixel camera. The new mid-range tablet will have MicroSD card expandable storage inside too.

The Snapdragon 400 is only about half the processing power compared to what we see from the benchmark processors, and they are also looking at increase that gap even further this year. With that being said, The Desire 8 is only intended to compete in the mid-range market, and anything with the name Snapdragon attached to it for the right price is always appealing to many customers.

These specs are released to us by LlabTooFeR and not HTC themselves. It’s for that reason that we should take what we hear with a grain of salt. Rumors are generally within the ballpark of what we do eventually see come launch time, and some are even right on the money. However, nothing is confirmed properly until we see it on stage and launched by the official team themselves. That date will be the 24th of February in China.

The poster we have on display here is posted on HTC’s Weibo account. This is a real poster and as you can see the text around the image is in Chinese writing, which is what has led us to believe that’s where it will launch. It’s not unusual for them to do that either. The former High-Tech Computer Corporation has launched many tablets and devices there in the past.

The HTC flagship Smartphone for this year is the M8, and that is 5″ in size. On the other end of the spectrum will be the HTC One Max 6″ phablet.
