Places in Europe including Russia and Italy plus the Southeast Asian country of Indonesia are starting to get an update rolling out OTA namely 14.4.A.0.108 firmware. The PTCRB certifies it. According to the official Sony Xperia blog, they don’t have a change-list right now so we can only assume it isn’t coming because if they don’t start without they don’t finish with one either. From here it’s up to the owners of the Z1 Compact smartphones to leave some comments with what they find. If you are keen to drop a few, we’d love to know what you are experiencing. Most of the time when changelogs aren’t there it is because there isn’t all that much to report so it’s safe to say features will be few and far between I’d say. Hopefully if any of you were experiencing some faults they will see fixes so if you can remember a bug that didn’t usually seem keep checking for the OTA so you can get it fixed.
Judging by the writing I can confirm it is in a non-English speaking country in Europe that is likely the Russian version. I can read the baseband number, and it is 8974-AAAAANAZQ-10270054-51.
People can always navigate to Settings > About phone > Software updates > System updates after turning their smartphones on and check if it is there. It will naturally come as a system notification anyhow so there is no need to do that. Sometimes people don’t get them and other people always just want to check when they have a spare few minutes.
Sony always recommends using a stable Home WiFi connection to start installing the update instead of the mobile data plan because they have a better success rate of not being interrupted. We do want to avoid this stopping and starting again before it is finished just to be on the safe side. Speaking of safe, have you backed up your data yet?
Backing up personal data, and information is necessary just in case it does go missing because you needed to apply a full factory reset if something goes wrong. Nobody anticipates that to occur but it does on the rare occasions. To make sure you’re safe and don’t lose anything backup the call logs, contacts, SMS and MMS texts, photos and videos to the smartphones internal memory. The Z1 Compact comes with 16 GB of built-in storage space that is great to use. If you are all out of space try using the Micros SD card that can store up to an extra 64 GB. If you don’t have the cash to purchase that try to use the 15 GB of free space on offer via the Google Drive service. Google loves to store you data in the cloud free of charge unless you go over the 15 GB limit.
The other information you want to look out for is the battery percentage on display as an icon in the status bar on the display. If the rate gets too low, it runs the risk of turning off the device, and that is something we want to avoid. Make sure the battery is OK until the installation finishes leave at least 50% battery power before starting. Given that the Z1 battery has a 3000 mAh capacity and 13.83 hours talk time that should be ample to see this out successfully.
