We knew that in January LG was testing Android 4.4 KitKat for both the Optimus G Pro and the G pro 2. Now, two months down the track, the former Lucky Goldstar group out of South Korea is looking after their homeland citizens by rolling out Android 4.4.2 KitKat to Korea. That is great news if you decided not to upgrade to the second-generation G pro and stick with the original for a while longer, even though the G pro 2 did receive this update first over the last month. If we were to analyze this, with other manufacturers, there is often a much bigger time delay between models.

The update has started making its way round to all devices in Korea, and it can take several weeks until it concludes. From there, we expect all international models to receive the same treatment coming up in the future after they finish up looking after Koreans first.

Android KitKat

This smartphone is last years flagship for the “Life’s Good” company, and it sold over 1 million units. After being very popular in its home country, the G Pro then went on sale in Europe, Latin America, the Middle East and 37 other different countries.

When mobile phones get older it is common to see the firmware releases slow down so that they older devices are running older firmware. The fact that the first-generation G pro is keeping up with the 2nd-Gen is very encouraging from a buyers standpoint. Knowing that when you invest your money in one of these smartphones, you can have it up to date after you’ve owned it for a while is a great feeling to have.

This phone was the first Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro based device to make it to the market, and it had us excited after we saw the benchmark test results that showed just how capable the hardware inside this handset was. It eclipsing a lot of the competition including the HTC One X.

The biggest highlight of the Android 4.4.2 KitKat is locking and unlocking the phone by tapping on the screen. There will be additional innovations to look out for including a much smoother and faster ROM over last time. Android always manage to make firmware work better with fewer bugs in the system when comparing it to what they had out before.

The report is factual that it is out now in Korea now. The news presented here is not a rumor. If you live there then we hope you enjoy the build coming to you. If you have it already then drop us a remark and tell us about your involvement with it, and any new features you may have noticed when comparing to the Jelly Bean it originally started on.

This news follows on from another update it had in January where it was given some of the LG G2 features plus the QuickWindows case.
