All web browsers will give you the option to allow or bock cookies. The cookies aren’t affiliated with the web browsers directly but rather the websites that you are viewing from within the browser.

A website can want to serve a cookie for a number of reasons. They might want to track your general location in the world, what type of web browser you’re using, the computer display’s dimensions, and the one you probably hear most talked about lately, for target advertising.

A cookie that helps target advertise can key together word associations and serve you ads that may be more relevant to you based on keywords you may have searched for, et cetera. Some say this is intrusive while others are more than happy to allow machine learning so they can be seeing ads that aren’t irrelevant to them because there is nothing more annoying than an irrelevant ad on your screen.

In its day Internet Explorer was a great web browser, and adjusting settings such as your cookie preferences was as easy to do as any other web browser out there.

The following tutorial demonstrates how to allow and block cookies from the Internet Explorer web browser when you are using a version of the Windows Vista operating system.

How to Allow and Block Cookies in Internet Explorer for All Websites in Windows Vista

Blocking cookies is how you can browse the Web with more privacy, but it can also have an adverse effect is hurting your browsing experience. The more irrelevant an advertisement is on your screen, the more likely you are to be annoyed by it on your screen. If there are one or two websites, in particular, you want to block cookies for, you may wish to use option two listed below instead of blocking all cookies from every website you visit.

1. Open the Internet Explorer web browser and then click on the Tools link from the top menu.

2. From the Tools drop-down menu, click on Internet Options to open the Internet Options dialog box.

3. Click on the Privacy tab and then click on the Default button under the Settings heading. Move the slider up or down depending on your preferences. This slider will change the level of privacy settings which includes the cookies.

You can also click on the Privacy tab and then click on the Advanced button instead. This opens up the Advanced Privacy Settings dialog where you can check the box next to where it says Override automatic cookie handling. This then allows you to choose what you want to do with first-party cookies and third-party cookies. For both options, you can choose between selecting Accept, Block, or Prompt for the cookies. Click on the OK button to save your changes.

You can now close the Internet Options dialog and continue using your computer if you like.

That’s all.
