A new Android KitKat version is finishing the certification stages and will start rolling out to Sony Xperia Z3 and Z3 compact smartphones within the next few weeks. We know this since the PTRCB website issued the official statistic telling us that model numbers D6653 and D5833 are passing through as we speak. The new build number for the updates is 23.0.1.A.1.38 and we suspect it to be another version of KitKat since the Android 5.0 Lollipop is not ready for the Nexus 6 until early November. That means the Xperia range will see the Lollipop software after that time, likely some stages during the Q1 or Q2 of the new year.

The great news is that Sony official released a statement just days ago confirming that all of the ‘Z’ series will see Android 5.0 Lollipop. Since the Z3 is the latest flagship and newer than the others, it will be toward the top of that list for time.

Z3

There’s no word on what features this fresh installment possesses However, as soon as we know more details we will update the story as it progresses. That takes place along with the official change-log upon the release.

Don’t forget that all firmware rolls out to devices in phases. That means you will eventually see the same notification alerting you that the installment is ready. However, they come at different times with no two notifications arriving at exactly the same time. Correspondingly, we do not know the algorithm that the manufacturers use to issue the date for each person therefore we cannot work out when it’s coming to you.

It seems that Japanese multinational conglomerate corporation is finally waking up to keeping the device owners up-to-date and they are loving this current dose of additional support.  We also are receiving word that the Z1  managed to get certified on the 14th of October and a fresh firmware release is coming that way too.

Look out for the update coming in to the PC companion or using bridge for Mac OS X. Additionally you can navigate to Settings > About Device > Software Updates and check that way.
